Evening Grace  Evening Grace in Powell Hall features a blend of contemporary music and popular hymns in a contemplative and inspiring setting. It will be familiar and new at the same time. It will be every Sunday at 5:30pm. Curious? Come and see!

Inquirers’ Class Want to grow spiritually? New to the Episcopal Church? Confirmed before 1979? Want to make an adult affirmation (or reaffirmation) of your faith? We invite you to attend our inquirers’ class. This series of classes will challenge your mind, strengthen the practices that keep you in touch with God, and encourage getting to know others in the parish through discussion and sharing. Classes will start Sunday January 29 and Wednesday February 1. Please contact the Rev. Susanne Methven for further information at 918-742-7381, or smethven@sjtulsa.org. This class is required if you would like to be confirmed by Bishop Ed June 3. 

Great Decisions 2012   Whether you know anything about the topic or have a book or not, come join us this Thursday, February 2, at noon in the Library to learn about PROMOTING DEMOCRACY. Future subjects to be explored are: Mexico, Cyber Security (2/16), Exit from Iraq and Afghanistan (3/15), State of the Oceans (3/29), Indonesia (4/12), Energy Geopolitics (4/26). Boy Scout Chili Cook-Off Be in the Common Room on Friday, February 10 from 5:30—7:30pm for the Annual Troop 153Venture Crew Chili Cook-Off. Ticket sales begin on Scout Sunday, February 5, in the Common Room before and after the 9:00am service. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 years and under. Tickets may also be purchased in the church office.

Come be the first to check out our latest FIND at the Dallas Market and choose while the selection is good.  We have received more copies of Dogspell and The Gospel of Sam, popular books that always sell out quickly. Our Winter Sale continues, which now includes all soup and dip mixes at half-price. Stock up for easy meals!

Second Saturdays On Saturday, February 11, at 7pm David McGehee and Grant McElwee will host young adults at their new home in South Tulsa. Just bring yourself, maybe a friend, and something to donate to one of our Outreach Partners. All the food and drinks for this event will be provided.

Outreach News On February 12, after the 10:00am service join the Outreach Committee for brunch in Powell Hall as we welcome Jay Pendrak, Volunteer Coordinator for McClure Elementary. He will share information with us about literacy and mentor opportunities for St. John’s at McClure. We are forming a team of mentors to help promote education and literacy in our community – and we need your help!

On Sunday, February 19 at 5:00 p.m. the Chancel Choir will sing a service of Sacred Choral Evensong at Trinity Episcopal Church, 501 S. Cincinnati. Featured will be Preces and Responses by William Buthod, organist and director of music at the Church of St. Mary here in Tulsa; the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in A by British composer Herbert Sumsion; and the lovely new anthem "Be Still Before the Lord" by Christopher Betts of Lubbock, TX. The service is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow in the Great Hall.

Shrove Tuesday is our last chance for revelry before the arrival of Lent. What better way to celebrate Shrove Tuesday than with a good, hearty pancake supper! Join us in the Common Room on February 21 for the Holy House of Pancakes, hosted by the Youth Group. We’ll serve pancakes, sausage, and other good things from 5:30pm until 6:30pm. Afterwards, we will have Safari Joe for children of all ages. We always have Openings for pancake chefs!

E.A.T. – Everyone’s A Theologian A new monthly opportunity for young adults beginning Feb 23 from 6:30 to 8pm at Leon’s in Brookside.  We’ll gather for dinner and some conversation around a spiritual or theological topic led by a different person each month. February will be led by Brian Hall.  Open to all young adults who might be interested in joining in the conversation – so invite someone to join you!

Imposition of Ashes  The traditional imposition of ashes will be observed at the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, February 22. Three services are scheduled to observe the start of Lent: 
7:00am—Holy Eucharist, Rite Two.
12:00 noon - Holy Eucharist, Rite Two, with hymns.
